Any suggestions for a vacation spot in the midwest?

k asked:

Mr friends and I are looking for an inexpensive location for our next road trip/ vacation. We’re planning on going somewhere this next May. We’ve already done Mackinac Island in Upper Michigan, Wisconsin Dells, and Door County in Wisconsin. Any new suggestions?

    how about Abilene, Kansas?

there is Eisenhower’s home, greyhound racing museum ( old age home for greyhounds), a restored carousel, a museum of telephony/telegraphy, and more in Abilene.

to the west is salina, where you can find, a buffalo farm/ranch (depending on the time of year there also may be a field maze, there is also a very nice zoo which i highly recommend!

to the east is Manhattan. a college town with a great parks/dam, Tuttle Creek. there is abundant wildlife, trails, picnic areas. also near Manhattan is a prarie restoration project w/a bison herd roaming wild.

you can stay in abilene for anywhere from 40-100 per night. salina and manhattan are slightly more expensive, but not terrible so.

abilene has a decent variety of resturaunts (a few fast food and a couple of excellent local places) Salina Manhattan have a larger selection of both chain and local delights.

it is very hot and dry in the summer, and very cold in the winter, so plan wisely. :-)

There are a few good places to go in the midwest. Frankenmuth in Michigan is wonderful. It’s all decked out in Christmas decorations and has some really good bargains on personalized things. The bavarian lodge is where we stayed. It has 2 huge indoor pools, gameroom and a restauant all within the hotel.

If you like amusement parks Cedar Point is awsome! My husband and I go by ourselves then we take the kids on a seperate trip. Nice hotels right there at the park. If you like roller coasters it’s the place to go.

Rock N Roll hall of Fame in Cleveland is a lot of fun too.

Why don’t you travel some of the scenic Mississippi byway road and maybe travel from say Red Wing MN (the coolest town in MN) through Iowa or something like that. There is usually quite a bit to do in the river towns.
    Have fun.
